My Wedding, My Gown Dear Fran, I went shopping for my wedding gown today with my mom and sister, who is my matron of honor.
I found a dress I loved and was exactly what I wanted. My mom said it was too "fru fru", and my sister thought the train was too long. The dress they liked was so much like my sisters wedding gown, I might as well use her's. Each time I pointed out what I liked about my favorite gown, they pointed out something wrong with it. I don't want to hurt their feelings and tell them I hate the dress they liked best. What can I do? Mom is paying for my gown. Carol M
Dear Carol, It has been aptly said that two's company and three's a crowd.
Rarely does it make more sense, than when shopping for your wedding gown. Remember, this is "your" wedding. Your wedding gown should be a reflection of your taste, personality and style, not that of the person(s) shopping with you. These will be "your" wedding memories and pictures. Tell your mom and sister you appreciate their suggestions, but have made your choice. Do not let the fact of who is paying for your gown influence your decision. Buying a wedding gown for a
daughter is an honor and privilege, not an obligation. Undoubtedly , your mother wants you to be happy with your selection, so definitely buy the gown your heart desires. The only exception to your "hearts desire," may be in the cost of the gown you select.
